First steps

1970

El Coto de Rioja carries out its very first harvest in the Denomination of Origin Rioja.

The original winery

1976

Inauguration of the facilities in Oyón (Álava).

The team takes shape

1979

The management team comes together, led by the alma mater of the company. Eduardo Santos-Ruiz, who introduces Pedro Guasch (Oenologist) Julian Díez (Business) and Julio Noain (Finance).

Commercial Network

1980

In the eighties the commercial network is built, one of the most important within the sector in Spain. The foundations are being laid for the creation of a great brand.

Expansion throughout the world

1990

El Coto consolidates its position as a benchmark in Rioja wines. As a consequence there is a large increase in export markets. International expansion is strengthened.

Expansion of the old winery

1995

The market increases year after year. The winery initiates a series of expansions in order to meet the increased demand.

Leaders in Spain

2000

With the new millennium, el Coto de Rioja is the leading brand in the Spanish market in the categories of Crianza and Reserva.

The largest winery in Rioja

2004

The property Los Almendros, owned by El Coto, becomes the largest vineyard in all of the Denomination of Origin Rioja.

Taking a chance on white

2010

With the planting of the new white varieties authorized by the Regulatory Council in Finca Carbonera, the vineyard at the highest altitude in Rioja, El Coto reconfirms its commitment to white wines.

Specialized in white wines

2014

A winery is built in the El Coto de Rioja facilities in Oyón that focuses solely on making white wines.

Winery in the vineyard

2017

The winery opens at Finca Carbonera, dedicated to the transformation of the white varieties in the vineyard itself.
