THE WINES / COTO MAYOR 2010

VINTAGE 2010 :
Harvest classified as Very Good, the result of the good weather throughout the growing cycle. There was plenty of rain during the winter which helped to mitigate excessive stress over the summer when the lack of rain and intense heat were the predominant factor. In September this tendency of heat and sunshine continued, helping to bring in the grapes in ideal condition and with excellent colour intensity.

VARIETY:
90% tempranillo and 10% graciano from the Rioja Alavesa.

YIELD PER HECTARE :
40 Hl./Ha.

VINIFICATION :
The fermentation processes took place in 300 Hl, stainless steel vats, with long maceration to achieve the balance between fruit and tannin and produce wines suitable for cask-ageing.

AGEING :
14 months in 225-litre American (80%) and French (20%) oak casks and 6 months in the bottle before release for sale; the new wood comes from different sources and coopers, and with different levels of toasting of the oak.

TASTING NOTES :
Dark, black cherry colour. On the nose, ripe, jammy fruit over a base of wild red berries, with hints of oak and vanilla from the ageing process. In the mouth, fruity, meaty and balanced, with good lingering persistence of the fruit in the finish

FOOD PAIRING :
Ideal to accompany red meat, grilled or baked fish and mature cheeses. Best served at 16-18ºC (60.8-64.4ºF).
